Thousands bid farewell to Woburn police 'hero'.
Woburn police Officer John "Jack" Maguire, 60, was remembered as a dedicated and heroic officer who gave his life to protect his community from a dangerous criminal.
Speaking to thousands of family, friends, police officers and residents -- who lined the streets of Woburn and Wilmington along the route to a filled, 3,000-seat Shriners Auditorium -- Woburn Police Chief Philip Mahoney, his eyes wet with emotion, gave the details of how Maguire died felling the man who had earlier held a gun to Kohl's employees while looting the jewelry counter.
